I’m looking forarwd to your post on why machine translation is important. Personally, I consider it dangerous in the hands of the lingustically naive — it almost always does a poor job and often does such a spectacularly bad job I encourage you to look into the quality of machine translation output when translating between closely-related languages. It is understandable that the issues surrounding this would not be widely known as in the anglophone world we don't really have any languages which are closely related (Scots could qualify but there is no really accepted standard).A quick note on the post: The section on SMT isn't quite how I explained it, but that is probably down to a problem of my communicating the process rather than David's scribing. For people who are interested in how SMT works, I would encourage them to look at the Wikipedia page on Statistical machine translation'.

Charles,Here's an agreement: It can be fincasating to give oneself over to another language in poetry, to simply listen, without understanding a word. I recently got back from a wonderful conference in Bosnia, the 46th annual Sarajevo Poetry Days, where poets from many parts of the world were in attendance. As one would expect, many participants were from the Balkans, so I had the chance to hear Serb, Croat, and Bosnian poets read. It's a beautiful sound. And interesting things can happen to the listener, when he or she listens fully, even without clear comprehension in the semantic sense. We need now, of course, more translation from the area. They are translating English-language poets avidly--I'm committed to doing what I can to find ways of getting some of these poets into English (the ones I met at the conference are some of the most learned, critically sophisticated poets I have met--this includes some very young people, as well, whose education is rather astonishing). A person who will be key in this process of exchange, I believe, is Semezdin Mehmedinovic, a major figure in Bosnia, and currently in Washington, D.C., who has begun (with Pedja Kojovic) a very ambitious publishing project called Eiffel's Bridge, from which the first series of very elegant books is due out soon. 7. It's so nice for me

It's so nice for me to have found this blog of yours, it's so interesting. I sure hope and wish that you take courgae enough to pay me a visit in my PALAVROSSAVRVS REX!, and plus get some surprise. My blog is also so cool! Don't think for a minute that my invitation is spam and I'm a spammer. I'm only searching for a public that may like or love what I write. Feel free off course to comment as you wish and remember: don't take it wrong, don't think that this visitation I make is a matter of more audiences for my own blogg. No. It's a matter of making universal, realy universal, all this question of bloggs, all the essential causes that bring us all together by visiting and loving one another. You must not feel obliged to come and visit me. An invitation is not an intimation. Also know that if you click on one of my ads I'm promised to earn a couple of cents for that: I would feel happy and rewarded (because I realy need it!!!) if you did click it, but once again you're totaly free to do what ever you want. I, for instance, choose immediatly to click on one of your ads, in case you have them. To do so or not, that's the whole beauty of it all, however, blogocitizens must unite also by clicking-help eachother when we know cybermegacorporations profit from our own selfishness regarding to that simple click. I think it's to UNITE MANKIND that we became bloggers! Don't see language as an obstacle but as a challenge (though you can use the translater BabelFish at the bottom of my page!) and think for a minute if I and the rest of the world are not expecting something like a broad cumplicity. Remenber that pictures talk also. Open your heart and come along!!!!! http://xbyqmhkonj.com jluqsu [link=http://czetcvyzom.com]czetcvyzom[/link]

kepiblanc:I've given serious thgohut to emigrating, as every Swede who is even moderately interested in his own future must. But in a world where islamofascism marches relentlessly backed with nukes and transcontinental payload carriers, there is no escaping it anywhere. Oh, you can probably carve out a few years of personal freedom and the luxury pretending it isn't happening moving somewhere as of yet less afflicted - but ultimately, there will be no hiding.Martin L: Like you, I admire America and Americans both. Unlike you, I think something essentially American has evaporated from the US collective psyche in the decades since the end of the cold war - I doubt, sadly, that they will be able to put up much of a fight, even with the exemple of Europe to look at. We are talking about a nation that is unable to enforce legal residence for untold millions - not by lack of capacity, but by lack of will.
